hola mis amigos

been a minute eh?

well, i'm in texas. cool stuff right? 19 hours in a car with a man with an injured leg. let's just say i drove most of the way. (his leg isn't broken like we thought. just bruised very very badly)

here's the shitty parts of texas:
~the water is fairly undrinkable. the tap tastes like salty blood. the reverse osmosis tastes like chemicals. i've been conservatively sipping aquavista bottles. (my conscious struggles with this, but I finally found the recycling center). I think most of my calories will come from sweet tea because its the only thing drinkable here.
~texans are the shittiest drivers ever. like, ten-miles-over-the-speed-limit, crawl-up-on-your-ass bad. my biggest pet peeve is the tailing. ugh, there is a whole lane empty, pass me sooner.
~the colour. its brown. not the people, the land. well, the people are brown, but they aren't the shitty part. utah is greener in november than texas is in may.
~the sense of urgency. remember how i said they drive fast? thats the only thing they do fast. once i waited longer in line than it took me to shop.

the awesome parts of texas follows:
~the supermarket. fresh tortillas. fresh made agua fresca. wine, malt liquor, and real beer. sushi cart. gulf shrimp. lottery tickets. fresh produce. actual selection of meatless products. need i go on?
~the variety of liquor stores. i've never had my choice of who to support, its always been the state taking my money. AND. i can purchase most of my mixers at the liquor store. none of that going back and forth shit. i could even pick up some bar ware if i chose to.
~the floods? i experienced my first flash flood here. i have never seen so much standing water. i was driving through rivers. for some reason the boy thought it was a good idea to drive on the frontage road rather than the highway. the highway is higher than the frontage road. significantly. whatever..
~diversity. there is more than white, middle class, god fearing, suburban families here. when i walk in the store i see all sorts of shoppers. basically, i haven't seen as many white-perfectly-coiffed-moms-with-three-children-under-5 here as i am accustomed to. and. i. love it.
~drink specials. advertised on radio. 'nuff said.

so maybe i'm too tourist-y. but I give this many shits: 0
because i'm having so much fun down here.

and tomorrow i'll see how much i can do on a sunday.
